Black Regiment Pastors
REV. JOHN PETER MUHLENBERG Most Christian pastors today appear to have little in common with the preachers of yesteryear. For example, many modern clerics would probably be surprised to learn of the active role colonial preachers had in America's fight for independence. It is no exaggeration to say that had it not been for the activism of America's pulpits, our independence would never have been won and this nation would not even exist. Until at least the Twentieth Century, it was well known that the Black Regiment was an intricate, even crucial, part of America's successful break with the Crown. However, only a handful of clergymen nowadays has any knowledge whatsoever of the Black Regiment. This is tragic!
The Black Regiment was composed of men of various Christian denominations who courageously championed the cause of liberty and independence and who preached fervently and faithfully the message of redemption and Biblical authority. They were untouchable and indefatigable! In the thinking and preaching of the Black Regiment, freedom and independence were precious gifts of God not to be trampled underfoot by men, human authority was limited and particular and subject to proper divine parameters, and the soul and mind of man were never to be enslaved by any master save Christ Himself. Membership in the Black Regiment was unofficial and without human oversight. Preachers of the black robes were found among Baptists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, German Reformed, Lutherans, Congregationalists, and others. They were young and old, loud and soft-spoken, rough and gentle, and urban and rural. They differed on secondary doctrines and never surrendered their theological distinctives. Yet, they formed an irresistible and unstoppable army that neither King George nor the demons of hell could match! As one reads the colonial history of the United States, he or she must be struck with the observation that the American people, on the whole, seemed to appreciate the courage and independence of their preachers. Even America's early political leaders shared in this appreciation. For instance, John Adams once remarked, "It is the duty of the clergy to accommodate their discourses to the times, to preach against such sins as are most prevalent, and recommend such virtues as are most wanted. For example, if exorbitant ambition and venality are predominant, ought they not to warn their hearers against those vices? If public spirit is much wanted, should they not inculcate this great virtue? If the rights and duties of Christian magistrates and subjects are disputed, should they not explain them, show their nature, ends, limitations, and restrictions, how muchsoever it may move the gall of Massachusetts?" The problem today is that America's preachers have taken off the black robes and put on yellow ones! Where is the preaching against prevalent sins?
Where is the spiritual, scriptural explanation concerning the rights and duties, limitations and restrictions of Christian magistrates from America's pulpits today?
He said, "If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discernment, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in Christianity, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it." Both John Adams and Charles Finney were right on target! When is the last time you heard a nationally renowned (or even locally renowned) Christian pastor speak out against the New World Order that President Obama and so many others are currently constructing? When have you heard them speak against the demise of our constitutionally protected liberties with the implementation of the Patriot Act and similar encroachments? When did you hear them renouncing the way the White House and Congress are facilitating the invasion of our country by illegal aliens? The answer is you haven't and you won't. In this regard, the words of the great German reformer, Martin Luther, come to mind: "If I profess with the loudes" If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages there the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battlefields besides is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point." It appears obvious that a majority of our pastors are absent from the battlefield, and that is precisely the reason our country is in its current state of disarray. What America needs more than anything else is a resurrected Black Regiment!

The "Black Regiment"The "Black Regiment" was a group of patriot-preachers from virtually every protestant denomination located throughout Colonial America at the time of America's fight for independence who courageously preached the Biblical principles of liberty and independence. The moniker stems from the tendency of these patriot-preachers to wear long, black robes in their pulpits. The inspiration for this directory comes from the scores of people throughout America who have contacted me asking if I knew of "Black Regiment" pastors in their respective cities. This directory is an attempt to help the many hundreds and thousands of Christians across America who desire to fellowship and worship with a courageous pastor who knows what is going on and is not afraid to preach truth to power. Men who are not enamored with political correctness or political parties. Men who love America's Christian history and heritage. Men who support and defend the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence. Men who preach the Bible and are not owned by committees. Men who do not grovel before the wealthy and affluent. These are the kinds of men who comprise the "Black Regiment." Each pastor on this list has read my initial appeal and has requested to be listed in this directory. If you are a pastor who wishes to be included in this list, please contact me. Plus, if you are a Christian who desires to find a "Black Regiment" pastor in your city, please let us know the city in which you live, and we will add it to our "looking" list.
Obviously, one will find various denominations and theological positions represented in this list. I am sure that I would not agree with some of the ministers on this list regarding various doctrines and methodology. I will leave it to each Christian to discern for himself the correctness, or lack thereof, of each ministry represented on this list. However, I rejoice over the efforts of any and all Christian ministers, regardless of denomination, who will courageously preach and promote the principles of liberty and independence. For the sake of this directory, we have added all those that requested to be included. As a disclaimer, I do not personally vouch for any of the ministries listed here. Check your state's link below to see if there are any of these courageous pastors in your area. Plus, if you know of any "Black Regiment" pastors in your area that are not listed, please email us their contact information and we will ask their permission to list them here. Please be sure to provide accurate contact information.

Pastor Steve Kern FROM THE PASTORS HEART… School is out and VBS is on. We have started doing VBS in the evenings because we can get more workers and it is cooler. I thank the lord for those who are wiling to take the time to work in VBS. I can remember as a boy riding to VBS in the back seat of an old 47 Ford where there was room behind the seat up next to the back window. There was a ledge there where a little five year old kid could ride in a car full of kids. In all the years I was in VBS I never got to carry either flag in the processional but I think I got to carry the Bible once. At the time my dad was the music director of the church and my mom played the piano. I think I missed out on those special positions because they didn't want to be showing preference to a staff member’s kid even if he was just a volunteer staff member. Now it is fond memories. Back then it was frustration, but I got through it all. My the times have changed since those days. I heard on the radio that they are trying to make it mandated that homosexual themed books be required reading in kindergarten, first, and second grade. If you read the requirements for government pre-school Head Start programs, there are homosexual indoctrination requirements there already. When Ellen Degenerus was mocking Sally on national TV for saying homosexuals are starting indoctrination with children as early as two years old, the crowd's laughter showed how ignorant most people are to what has been going on for a long time. Not only are our schools becoming training grounds for deviant lifestyles, they also train kids in anti-Christian worldviews. If you can remember it was not too long ago that elementary school teachers were teaching Transcendental Meditation to kids while having them bring fruit offerings to Hindu gods. Now in the name of multi-cultureless schools are setting aside days to teach Muslim practices in our public schools while anything close to hinting of Christianity is shunned for fear of a law suit. Of course the greatest practice of religious indoctrination in our public schools is teaching naturalistic evolution. Under the guise of science they are training children how to think of beginnings without the need for God. Their whole paradigm is if everything can be explained by natural processes then it goes without saying that God is no longer necessary. Thank God for Christian teachers who do not go along with these trends and provide an alternate role model for kids in their classes. With these and many other things going on like government take over of private industries, hate crimes legislation in the Senate Judiciary committee, and the coming attempt to overthrow, through the Supreme Court, California's Proposition 8 that keeps traditional marriage as the law of the state, all of these give me deep and abiding concerns for the direction our nation is now taking. I pray every morning for God to have mercy on our nation. The time has come though for God's people to put feet to our prayers. The best way to do so is to write, e-mail, or call our state and national elected officials to let them know where we stand on every issue. I believe the Moral Majority is still the majority in this land. Many have allowed themselves to get side-tracked by bad economic publicity, but the economy is not our problem. The real problem is the moral free fall of our nation that God can no longer bless. As I have said before, if we will get the morals right God will take care of our economic prosperity. We need to be a voice to that end.
1300 N Robinson Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73103 “First Lutheran Church is biblically committed as a humble servant of Christ to carry on His work within our congregation, community, nation, and world.” Pastor Jerry Peterson This month's message from Pastor Jerry: On Wednesday, August 19, an unexpected tornado appeared and touched down in downtown Minneapolis. The following account was from an eyewitness: On a day when no severe weather was predicted or expected…a tornado forms, baffling the weather experts-most saying they’ve never seen anything like it. It happens right in the city. The city: Minneapolis. The tornado happens on a Wednesday…during the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s national convention in the Minneapolis Convention Center. The convention is using Central Lutheran across the street as its church. The church has set up tents around it’s building for this purpose. This curious tornado touches down just south of downtown and follows 35W straight towards the city center. It crosses I-94. It is now downtown. The time: 2PM. The first buildings on the downtown side of I-94 are the Minneapolis Convention Center and Central Lutheran. The tornado severely damages the convention center roof, shreds the tents, breaks off the steeple of Central Lutheran, splits what’s left of the steeple in two…and then lifts. The timing was significant! At 2 PM, the 5th session was to begin. The main item of the session was “Consideration: Proposed Social Statement on Human Sexuality.” The social statement was the prelude to a vote scheduled for Friday to decide whether practicing homosexuality is a behavior that should disqualify a person from the pastoral ministry. It was shortly before the vote that strong winds toppled trees outside the convention center and damaged the steeple of the church next door, prompting a speaker at the convention to quip, “We trust that the weather is not a commentary on our work.” The social statement passed and a news article declared: The largest U.S. Lutheran group voted Friday to allow homosexuals in committed relationships to become ministers. Delegates to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America convention voted 559 to 451, The Washington Post reported. The ELCA, with 4.8 million members, becomes the largest Christian group in the United States to approve gay ministers. The vote changes a policy that had allowed only celibate gays to serve in the ministry. Critics predicted the vote would split the church. Terri Stagner-Collier, one of the delegates, said Lutherans who cannot accept gay pastors would be "ripped away" from the ELCA. "I urge you not to do this -- not to do this at all," she said, in tears. Some delegates argued the church must recognize changes in attitudes toward homosexuality. "We live today with an understanding of homosexuality that did not exist in Jesus' time and culture," said Tim Mumm, a lay delegate from Wisconsin. "We are responding to something that the writers of Scripture could not have understood." The words of Mr. Mumm were without spiritual understanding. “Father, forgive him for he knows not what he is saying.” Whether 2000 years ago or today, God’s Word, certainly understood and understands the time and culture. A few days after the tornado, Dr John Piper pastor Bethlehem Baptist in Minneapolis wrote an article viewing the time and precision of the tornado was not coincidental, but very much a message from God. He provided 6 points of biblical insight and counsel, to which I fully agree: 1. The unrepentant practice of homosexual behavior (like other sins) will exclude a person from the kingdom of God. (1 Cor. 6:9-10) 2. The church has always embraced those who forsake sexual sin but who still struggle with homosexual desires, rejoicing with them that all our fallen, sinful, disordered lives (all of us, no exceptions) are forgiven if we turn to Christ in faith. (1 Cor. 6:11) 3. Therefore, official church pronouncements that condone the very sins that keep people out of the kingdom of God, are evil. They dishonor God, contradict Scripture, and implicitly promote damnation where salvation is freely offered. 4. Jesus Christ controls the wind, including all tornados. (Mark 4:41) 5. When asked about a seemingly random calamity near Jerusalem where 18 people were killed, Jesus answered in general terms-an answer that would cover calamities in Minneapolis, Taiwan, or Bagdad. God’s message is repent, because none of us will otherwise escape God’s judgment. (Luke 13:4-5) 6. Conclusion: The tornado in Minneapolis was a gentle but firm warning to the ELCA and all of us: Turn from the approval of sin. Turn from the promotion of behaviors that lead to destruction. Reaffirm the great Lutheran heritage of allegiance to the truth and authority of Scripture. Turn back from distorting the grace of God into sensuality. Rejoice in the pardon of the cross of Christ and its power to transform left and right wing sinners. A few days later, Dr Piper wrote another blog to better clarify that each of us must deal with any and all sin in our lives. He wrote: “Three years ago God sent the tornado of cancer into my life. It split the steeple of my health and shredded the tents of my sexual life. I wrote an article to myself: Don’t Waste Your Cancer. It could have been titled: Don’t waste your tornado. God’s message to me in my tornado was essentially the same as to the ELCA in theirs. My tornado was a gentle but firm warning to me and all of us: Turn from every approval of sin in your life. Turn from the justification and promotion of any behaviors in your life that lead to destruction. Reaffirm the great biblical heritage of allegiance to the truth and authority of Scripture. Turn back from your inveterate bent to distort the grace of God into sensuality. Rejoice in the pardon of the cross of Christ and its power to transform you and all other sinners. That is the message of every calamity (Luke 13:1-5). And every sunny day (Romans 2:4) I said to myself three years ago: God’s design in the tornado of this cancer is “to deepen my love for Christ…and to wean me off the beast of the world.” It aims to make my besetting sins look less attractive than they ever have. This tornado “is designed to destroy the appetite for sin, Pride, greed, lust, hatred, unforgiveness, impatience, laziness, procrastination-all these are the adversaries that cancer is meant to attack.” In other words, the cancer-tornado was a merciful rebuke to my worldliness and a timely thrust toward holiness. This is the lesson that Luke 13:1-5 and 2 Corinthians 1:8-9; 4:17-18; 12:9-10, and many other texts imply for every tornado in any city, and any life, anywhere in the world. Only the details change. My tornado was a call to repentance. Yours will be too. But that is not Satan’s design. Only God’s. Satan’s design is that you approve your sin. God’s is that you let Him forgive it and overcome it.” I’m thankful for Dr. Piper’s messages. I hope that you are too. With you in Christ’s service, Pastor Jerry
